Abstract:

Women are often forced to choose between family and work. This is particularly true in western Germany, where there are fewer childcare services than in most other European countries. International studies show that immigration has an influence on how native women organise their time between housework and employment.
We investigate for the first time whether and how the immigration of female migrants affects the supply of domestic services in Germany, and how this affects the labour market behaviour of native women.
